An Empty Wish

Smiles numbered up in rows,

Though there's none that I chose,

Furnished me with a heroic story;

A simpleton capsized in ethanolic glory.

As clearly as I could see through haze,

Shook hands with those who met my gaze,

And then, there came the day,

I saw each one fade away;

Perhaps I was just foolish

To rejoice upon an empty wish.
