Gazing outside from my balcony,
I looked as far as I could see.
Beyond the vast expanse of sand,
Far away from rocky land,
With dreamy eyes she glanced at me,
The pretty maiden of the sea.
Her locks were intertwined with waves,
Her voice bubbled in dark caves,
Her arms nestled in the water’s cloth,
Her laugh, her smile, were of salty froth.
The sun shone upon her cheerful face,
Brightening her with an orange glow,
Then decked her with shiny pearls as she,
Sat in peace so low.
But not for long had she rested
Had her might then been tested?
For years later there came doom,
She lay there, in silent gloom.
People everywhere had been so rash,
Littering her being with ugly trash,
For buildings then, they had made way,
By taking the shore’s sand away.
Smoke had made her fog-locks thin.
Big ships in scores had come in,
Spilling out oil on her hair,
Oh! She was in such despair!
“Oh maiden, won’t you do something?
Give your spirits, your might, a wing.
I can’t bear to see you cry,”
The maiden made no reply.
But then the day came atlast,
She rushed up the shore so fast,
Letting out a mighty roar.
She couldn’t bear it anymore,
She even made the mighty skies dread,
She rose up in waves and moved ahead.
She lifted thunderous clouds on her back,
The wind howled as she charged into attack.
She sheathed herself in a blanket of haze,
Went on with the scene for days and days,
The silent being had been so rough,
Now she felt that it was enough.
So then with her heavenly charm,
She settled herself in peace, so calm,
Now that the foes were defeated,
Her magical waters soon retreated.
Lay in wreck now, oh, so frail,
The very ships that did once sail.
In splinters, shattered, oh, so sore,
Stranded upon the sandy shore.
They were washed away, off the ground,
There they lay scattered around
Like jars fallen off the shelf.
Amidst this lay, the maiden herself.
With a smile on her face,
And a wink in her eye,
From there she waved to me,
The holy maiden of the sea.
