An eerie evening chill wavered around the shrouded figure that swept in...
"I was wondering why I had not seen you today."
"Hello, Doctor," a hoarse voice responded.
"Well," the doctor grinned, washing his hands with deep intent, "good evening, I suppose."
"You must have grown weary to see me everyday, Doctor."
The doctor, still cheerful, replied, "Years ago, I was perturbed to see an unusual guest take away precious things away from this world. Then as many decades passed, I came to understand you as a friend who would lead directionless souls to a safe journey to the afterlife. And yet, I must be that one hopeful comrade who must dare to―"
"Ask me to wait."
"Ask you to wait. For I believe your friend Destiny is unjust in so many ways to let a soul, yet to dwell enough in this world, pass onto the next without reason. I do intend, in duty, to let Life have its way with a person for what time it is allowed. And today, as I prepare for my rounds this evening, I must, and will ask of you again, and again, to wait."
"Not today, good doctor," said Death, in a regretful voice, "today, I have come for you..."
